Applications

The applications of Data Acquisition (DAQ) vary widely. You can apply DAQ products in tasks ranging from simple measurements such as voltage and temperature and the controlled switching of relays and alarms to controlling and monitoring complex processes and production systems.

DAQ comprises of two main measurement categories:


Digital I/O

This can be used for:

- Switching things on or off
- Sensing switch closures
- Counting
- Reading sensors that give an “on” or “off” reading, such as proximity sensing
- Alarm detection
- Time keeping
- And many other applications…


Analog I/O

This can be used for:

- Measuring voltages (AC&DC)
- Measuring temperature
- Measuring vibration
- Measuring movement (ie: acceleration; speed; angular displacement & distortion)
- Measuring pressure
- Measuring current (AC&DC)
- Molecular identification
- Light and colour analysis
- Frequency generation and waveform control
- Power control and monitoring


There are of course many more uses and applications for DAQ… the possibilities are limitless. DAQ products are currently in use in every industry, and scientific discipline.
